Maryah is the first-ever project by Sir Richard Rogers in the Middle East. A block of 4 skyscrapers on the waterfront located on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi, known as the financial district, where famous upscale properties have been built including the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. It is centrally located in the city accessed by a series of bridges.
The 153,000-square-metre scheme was inspired by Abu Dhabi’s nautical heritage. The four sloping towers are intended to resemble the sails of a ship with open balconies and terraces reminiscent of a ship’s deck. Each tower is diamond-shaped to provide maximum natural lighting to each unit, allowing expansive views of the Arabian Gulf.
KEO stayed faithful to the original design vision in detailing the tower designs. A number of changes were implemented including going from a rom steel to reinforced concrete structure, increasing the number of units, and redesigning the building outer skin in response to need of reducing construction cost.
One of the towers was fully executed and constructed as part of Phase 1 program. The three other towers are planned to be rolled out and built-in future phases.
