Sidra Medicine is a 382 bed women’s and children’s hospital, medical education and biomedical research center located in Education City, Qatar. It is an entity of Qatar Foundation. The hospital first opened its outpatient facility in 2016, followed by its inpatient hospital in January 2018. Sidra Medicine was funded by a QR 7.9 billion endowment from the Qatar Foundation, the largest in the world for a medical and research center.
The expansive campus like facility is an ultra- modern structure of steel, glass and white ceramic tiles designed to be a benchmark for healing environments throughout the world. It includes 3 hospitals, a children’s care hospital, a women’s hospital, and an adult acute care hospital. Each of the inpatient rooms of the 3 hospitals are organized around and have views to its own landscaped healing atria.
KEO as the PMC, worked closely with Qatar Foundation, Weil Cornell Medical School, Hamad Medical Corporation, Sidra Medicine Management, their doctors, and department heads, with the architects, engineers, and specialist consultants from inception of its master plan to handing over. As PMC we were drivers in formulating an agreed program thereafter managing the entire design team, conducting deep dive design reviews until issuance of multiple tender documentation, and coordinating with all stakeholders. KEO’s role continued into construction as Engineer, managing budget, schedule, and quality. Our role included the management of the specialist equipment installation. Finally, KEO continued to support the facility management operations in the handing over of this mega facility, partnering with them in the commissioning of the facility.
